I've been experiencing consistent issues with the young reception staff at this dental office regarding my Invisalign appointments. Unfortunately, they fail to notify me when my new Invisalign sets are ready to be picked up.Despite several instances where I had to wear my weekly disposable Invisalign set for over a month, the reception still persisted to give me appointment to pick up after 1 week or with limited time options. It would be beneficial for the office to look into improving their communication and customer service to better accommodate their patients' needs

I had a disappointing experience at this dental hospital. They were more focused on upselling unnecessary procedures, than providing clear care. Pricing was not transparent, and every time I asked, I received vague answers. They kept scheduling multiple follow-up appointments, seemingly to rack up extra charges without addressing my actual needs. I won’t be returning and wouldn't recommend it if you value transparency.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!! I was a first time costumer- got a quick appt that worked with my schedule! Needed a lot of help and some reassurance! Teresa was my rock throughout the day and was extremely good at her job! She always took the time to show me/explain what was happening. Will be filing a complain to DCA against this business. I have been to this clinic 4 times, and have had a bad experience 4 out of 4 times. 1. Charged about $50 PPE fee - when inquired, they said this was for the Covid protection equipment - This is end of 2023, and no Covid PPE was used during my exam. When inquired I was told by the manager they might have 'forgotten' to remove this charge. 2. Was asked to pay for an x-ray that was done during the first appointment, and not covered by insurance as expected - totally fair, and the amount was paid, no questions asked. The office was short staffed, and the dentist attending to me kept going back and forth between different patients, leaving me waiting on the dentist chair for 35 mins with half of my mouth finished. However, after my appointment, Dr. Sheila Shahabi contacted me, very kindly explained the situation and promised me a better service next time. 3. I was told if I should considered getting invisalign. (I have done and already finished my invisalign treatment one year ago, had wired retainers attached to my teeth, and my teeth are in good orientation!) At this point I am not sure if any of the other problems and fixes I have been prescribed from here are genuine. At my third appointment, I was presented a bill, which included the xrays from my first appointment (please note that I already paid for it during my second appt), on my reminder, they could see that I did indeed pay for my xrays, but could not explain where my due amount . After 25 mins of reception staff, juggling various printouts and pondering over numbers, they reached out to the manager for help, who was 'in a meeting'. I was told I will be getting a call back from the office once they figure it out. No call came. I called back the office. The manager was 'still in a meeting', and the reception said, they were still 'working on it'. No follow up call . 4. At my fourth, quick (10 min follow up appt.), I had to wait 25 mins to be seen by a dentist. I inquired if my previous billing issue was resolved. Did not seem to recall any issues (this is a week from my last visit). They presented me the bill and told me the due amount was not from x-rays, but from my previous appointment. At this point I am not sure what I am being told is accurate, and feel the need to look at the numbers closely. The staff is unable to provide my with an itemized bill explaining my balance. The answers were vague, and I was told "if you do the math, you will get this number..". I am an engineer with a masters degree, I can do the math, if only they actually provide a proper record of my bills! On my insistence, reception staff told me that the manager is working on an itemized bill (not sure what needs to be 'worked' on to provide an itemized bill) Again, the manager was 'in a meeting'. I was asked I would be given a call back. No call yet. I believe this office is unethical, does not provide transparency on what is being charged, suggests problems which do not exist in order to charge you for services you don't need. I will be filing a complain to California Dental board, as well as department of Consumer Affairs.

No notifications on new tray arriving. Edit: doctor Shahibi followed up on the review, learned about my experience and made process improvements within the teams. This office will oversell you, overcharge you, and create problems that require you to come back for more work. I strongly advise you get second or third opinions before committing to serious dental work here. Also, check your EOB every time they bill you. They likely billed you more than necessary. This is unfortunate because Dr. Seah is wonderful, caring and intelligent. She deserves a better team around her.

Everyone was friendly! But I felt like they were trying to upsell me the entire time and didn’t have much experience. Their explanations about basic procedures seemed to be lacking, but much of the staff is quite young. One of the staff barely spoke English, which made it hard to work with her. I had a 1 hour appointment and they took about 2 hours (and I had to get back to work). I cancelled my next appointment on Friday for Monday and they’re trying to charge me a fee after they didn’t respect my time. I’d recommend a place with more experience that provides better patient care.

I’d like to commend the team at Serenity Dental Spa for their fantastic customer service and patient care.
I visited last year during the holidays with an emergency: a painfully cracked tooth that wasn’t salvageable and one for a root canal. I picked the first place available during the holidays. Dr. Vincent Leung, DDS, and his team were kind, courteous, professional, and funny. Dr. Leung did not rush me or my procedures for the root canal and extraction. He also made sure I took antibiotics prior to the procedure to protect me from further infection. He was great at performing the extraction and the root canal which are often complicated and delicate procedures.
In addition, when I wanted a second opinion for my tooth extraction, Dr. Shahabbi was just the sweetest! She made sure to take time for me and thoroughly explained the X-rays and the following procedures. I was very pleased with her friendliness, demeanor, and commitment to ensuring I was happy with my results.
Lastly, the reception team is fantastic. Maria greets you with a smile. Both Linda and Maria were kind, helpful, and called me to ensure I remembered my follow-up appointments, which I could also choose to get texted and emailed. The registration process is smooth, and they accept all insurance. Araceli in accounting was very helpful with my billing concerns.
My favorite office member is Bentley, the office mascot and source of pure doggy love. Of course, if you don’t like dogs, don’t worry—he stays busy coordinating the staff in the back office unless you want to see him. ?
Their overall service is fantastic, and their office location is super convenient for anyone working in Downtown SF. I highly recommend this team and their office!

My experience at Serenity has been incredibly frustrating. The billing department lacks transparency and is very unprofessional when handling concerns. In one instance I had three separate bills sent to me for a treatment, each for a different amount. I was either being overcharged or charged multiple times for parts of the treatment. I had to call multiple times to get it cleared up. I started another treatment recently and was told my insurance would refund me directly for the portion they covered (which was a significant amount!). I called my insurance only to find out that they had sent Serenity the refund two months prior yet the office never contacted me to let me know they had received it. I called the billing department and was met with a very dismissive “oh right, we’ve been meaning to work on it”. I’ve made multiple in person visits for follow ups and when I try to ask about the refund I have to wait over 30 minutes to get told the same thing. According to California Business and Professions Code, Section 732, “a dentist must refund an overpayment to a patient within 30 days of the patient's request. Violation of this section shall constitute unprofessional conduct.” It’s been 4 months. The Dr Shahabi is great to work with but it doesn’t make up for my experience so far. Also, as other reviews say, they are quite aggressive with pushing treatments on you. I would not recommend this place!

Absolute Chaos at Serenity Dental Spa Dental Clinic If you value your sanity and hard-earned money, steer well clear of Serenity Dental Clinic. My experience there was a complete and utter nightmare from start to finish. As soon as you walk through the door, it's evident that organization and professionalism are foreign concepts at this office. The front desk staff seemed utterly clueless, shuffling papers aimlessly and unable to provide any coherent information. Trying to get a callback was like pulling teeth - no pun intended. The real horror show began when I was called back for my appointment. The technicians and dentists were running around like headless chickens, frantically moving from room to room with zero sense of order or plan. It was clear there was zero communication or coordination between them. To make matters even worse, in their frazzled rush, they performed not one but TWO major procedures on me in a single visit, along with redundant diagnostic coding that my insurance outright refused to cover. I was blindsided by an outrageous bill that they insisted I pay in full. For months now, I've been calling and calling, trying to get this billing fiasco resolved, only to be met with deafening silence or empty promises to "look into it." I honestly don't think anyone at this office has the faintest clue what's going on from one minute to the next. Do yourself an enormous favor and avoid the unmitigated disaster that is Serenity Dental Clinic at all costs. Unless you actually enjoy utter chaos, unprofessionalism, and being blatantly overcharged with zero accountability, find yourself a dentist with some semblance of competence and organization

I felt inclined to write a review after having an amazing visit with a different dental office today. Dr. Shahabi was the first dentist I saw when I moved to SF a few years ago and I stayed with her office for a year and a half. I raved about her in the beginning as she seemed great and I loved the office space; but after a handful of visits I quickly grew suspicious of her and her colleagues. Every visit they seemed to find cavities despite me having only had 2 prior in over 30 years of life. I have lived in 5 cities including LA and NYC and therefore seen many dentists, yet somehow only Shahabi's office was finding all these cavities. Since switching to a new dentist (Dr. Keyser, who is just a few blocks away if anyone else is looking) a year and a half ago, I have yet to have another "cavity"...SHOCKER.

TLDR: They lied about me having cavities! I went to this provider and say Dr. Alyson Seah for an oral exam and she told me I had 8 cavities quoting me over 2K worth of restorations. It had been a while since I had seen the dentist but I am quite diligent about my teeth, so I was very confused. They kept saying that it wasn’t my fault and it was genetic but that I needed to treat them quickly or they would get worse. I went to get a second opinion and I went to another dentist and found out I only have 1 single minor cavity and they showed me pictures of my teeth. I was shocked. Honestly this is just SO frustrating and shocking because if I didn’t have a good plan that allowed me multiple oral examinations I probably would have just let them do the work on my teeth. I have no idea if they would have drilled into perfectly good teeth or pretended to and charged me. Just super fraudulent and concerning behavior. I can’t believe a health care provider would do this just to make more money. Posting here because I wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone else. Just avoid this place. It’s so nice and fancy and the people are nice just to scam you.

Everyone were so nice and professional, took all the time in the world to make sure everything was perfect. No words. The cost was nothing especially compared to the amount of time and care they put in. Incredible.

They handled my emergency dental appliance repair so quickly and the repair looks better than the original that I had done at another office. I'm sold and have become a new patient. Already scheduled my cleaning first of the year and am transferring all my upcoming dental work to this office! The space is beautiful and extremely clean. You can tell how much each person employed here cares! 10/10!

Friendly and good care during your visit, but left feeling frustrated and upset because they are not accurate or transparent about how much patients have to pay. I went in to this clinic for my first time for routine dental care at the end of 2022. I had a normal cleaning and the dentist identified a few small cavities I needed to get filled. They also said I really needed a deep cleaning based on how deep my gum pockets were. The front desk confirmed the total cost of deep cleaning and cavity filling based on my dental insurance. Based on this information, I scheduled a follow up appointment for the deep cleaning and cavities. The appointment went well, but what upset me was afterwards the front desk told me that because I did deep cleaning, any future routine cleanings were going to be more expensive for me out of pocket because I had to get a particular follow up care for deep cleaning. I would not have done the deep cleaning had I known any future routine cleanings would be more expensive. The second upsetting thing is that I received a bill from the office for my cavity filling 2 months after my appointment. I had confirmed the total cost with the office and thought I had paid for everything at the office. However, I was informed that their staff referenced the wrong dental insurance plan and that they underbilled me for the procedure. This was very frustrating as I was sent the bill by mail with none of this context and I had to call them to find out what was going on. Safe to say, I will not be coming back. Even though I was very careful about confirming the costs of any procedures I was having done, they were not transparent at all and expect me to pay extra for the mistakes their staff made.

I found this office through Zoc Doc 2 months after moving from New York City. Before I left NYC I removed my metal braces and wanted to continue to care for my teeth in San Francisco. This office is conveniently located, making an appointment was very easy . The front desk staff is amazing and has made the onboarding experience and scheduling very seamless ( shout out to Heather and Maria). I’ve visited the office initially for a cleaning, Amilia was amazing and very patient, it was my first cleaning post metal braces and I was very happy that they broke the session into different quadrants making the experience less overwhelming . Also after my initial visit, the team recommended I continue my smile treatment using Invisalign , Terresa answered all of my questions specially on the process post metal braces . The office manager (Araceli) and coordinator (Linda)also were there to assist my many billing questions , ensuring I understood pricing, payment options and other insurance concerns . Overall this has been a great experience, going to the dentist doesn’t always have to be scary.

These folks call themselves a spa and charge premium prices for services while delivering a substandard product. Through COVID, charged full price for invisilign treatments while making minimum, if any, effort to deliver trays. Make assumptions that clients want most expensive procedures when more economic ones will be equally as effective. Under-anesthetized my partner TWICE, leaving her in severe pain for two procedures. My partner just received a brand new billing (on 2/10/23) for procedures dating back to 2021. We have never received a previous billing or late notice for these procedures. WTH‽ We understand that companies need to make a profit, but from all indicators on our side, this dentistry is a poorly run, chaotic, dangerous mess with greatest attention paid to maximizing bottom line and little regard for patient care.

This dentist charges over $1,649 for two teeth cleanings and 3 fillings. Still receiving bills & threatening calls over two years later for additional payments after I had finalized my payments over a year ago. UPDATE: I finally received invoices from the company and found that they double charged me for a visit that never occurred. I contacted them about it and, again, have not heard a response and doubt I ever will. I went to this office because of the reviews but my entire experience was a mess: from the actual treatments that were performed to the administrative filing. Not only did the dentist cause damage to my mouth and old teeth fillings, but the office also threatened to send me to collections out of the blue after I hadn't heard back from them after reaching out over a span of 3 months. During my first visit, I spent 4 hours (maybe more) for a cleaning and getting fillings in my teeth. Easily one hour was spent waiting in the chair for the dentist after my cleaning was done. After getting fillings, my mouth was extremely numb and bloody. The dental assistant sent me home with cotton balls in my mouth and told me to be careful because my mouth would be tender. When I got home, I noticed they had drilled through my gums & the back of my jaw by my wisdom teeth. I wish now that I had taken pictures of this, but I was working so much so figured it'd be fine when it healed... I was already scheduled the next week for a second visit because I was told I needed to go back for a second cleaning and this also took about 3 hours. It was also at this appointment that I found out that the dentist who worked on me caused an old filler in my tooth to fall out. I finished my payments with the office and even clarified with the front desk that my account was OK (because I did not want to deal with them again). Months later, I received 3 invoices. When I contacted the office about this, I was informed that it was an issue caused on their end when they input the insurance info and there was no action needed from me. A year later, I contacted them between November of 2022 through January 2023 to receive invoices since my insurance had changed and I had moved, so I wanted information on the work I had done and received no contact from them whatsoever. Whatever - I wasn't surprised. Today, I found out through an automated text that they are sending my account to collections for unpaid invoices which I thought were resolved over a year ago. When contacting them, they were extremely aggressive, rude, and interrupted me the whole time. They also didn't have record of any details or information about my account. Only saying that I owed $100. They still haven’t provided me invoices of all of the payments I had made and my procedures - which were very expensive. The lady I spoke to said she would have known if there were any issues on my account which is why she is sending me to collections. It’s great to know that the company is extremely scammy and treat their clients as lab rats because nobody can do their job properly and have them deal with the mistakes the company made. Good job to all involved.

Great service, and the people are lovely, but I agree with all the other reviews: this is very money-oriented. They want to see you all the time and sell you many things. Even after cancelling some cleanings, I have been there more than 10 times in total in less than a year and it usually takes very long (almost 2 hours). I don’t think my teeth are bad, and yet I have to negotiate each time about taking less appointments (they asked me to book 3 more appointments last time today) or not buying more (Invisalign, ARESTIN, $79 coating…). I asked to skip today but I was still strongly recommended ARESTIN, so I still said yes, but I’m not sure how important that is. It costed $500 and was outside my insurance. Again, people are lovely, but it’s a lot of money and time. In France they see you just twice a year!

I would be very cautious with this dental office. They seem to push a lot of additional procedures, and some of their cavity classifications may be questionable. If you’re uncertain about any recommendations, I’d highly suggest getting a second opinion. To make matters worse, their front desk repeatedly "forgets" to provide an itemized receipt. I've called multiple times, and each time there's a different excuse. An itemized receipt should be standard practice, and the lack of transparency is frustrating. If you're considering this office, proceed with caution.

When I tell you that the staff at Serenity Dental Spa treated me at my lowest point, I am not exaggerating. I had fallen on my face onto a curb in Union Square, and had three cracked teeth, with one on the edge of falling out. What’s more, I was visiting SF on a work trip and was 1,000 miles from my doctors and family. I was lucky enough to get an emergency appointment and Dr. Leung, Dr. Shahabi, and the entire staff immediately treated me with kindness, empathy, humor and care. When I started going here, I thought they were the best -- Dr. Shahabi and her staff are friendly and upbeat and the office is clean and comfortable. However, lately I'm not impressed and am planning to find a new dentist after I complete my Invisalign treatment. 90% of the time, they schedule me a 30-min appointment for a procedure that takes at least an hour or two. A few times they have lost track of where I am in my Invisalign treatment or "misplace" aligners that were supposed to have been ordered. There is no consideration for my work schedule and I have missed planned calls or lost entire days because they're disorganized. I also notice that Dr. Shahabi tends to manipulate me into paying for procedures that I am unable to afford by leading me to believe that they cost a lot less than they actually cost. Then they blame the high cost on my insurance coverage, which I used to believe, until I overheard a conversation where another patient was asking why their costs were so high and why they always had random balances showing up on their account and Dr. Shahabi told them the same thing -- their insurance coverage -- and then tried to distract the patient from their line of questioning by telling them about a funny YouTube video she had watched recently. I really don't appreciate the shadiness I've experienced here and I would not recommend Serenity Dental Spa. In fact I actively tell my friends NOT to use my dentist. 9/15/2021 edit: Dr. Shahabi’s office called me to ask me why I left this review so I’d like to amend my below statement about overhearing the other patient with some new information they gave me today. Dr. Shahabi’s office told me that I didn’t understand the situation with the patient — that they were being very rude to the front desk so Dr. Shahabi had stepped in to diffuse the situation by talking about YouTube (instead of trying to help the patient with their actual problem). I do remember that the patient was annoyed; it was because they had come to pick up aligners that were supposed to be delivered that day, but Dr. Shahabi’s office had forgotten to order them.

Serenity Dental spa is a very nice clean establishment. I gave it 5stars because I get 5star service every time I have an appointment. Their staff is very Polite and knowledgeable. I was referred to them a year a year ago and I’m super pleased with my treatment. Please save yourself a big hassle and don’t go here. If you have a new unused insurance then definitely don’t go here. They are interested in making money and don’t really care about the patients issue that may need utmost attention. I went to Dr. Sheila and Dr Chu, with a toothache. Inspite of taking care of the toothache, they did some deep cleaning and charged me close to $700. After that they told me to go to another dentist to get the toothache fixed. Worst experience ever! Definitely do not recommend.

Dr. Shahabi has been my dentist for 10 years. Over the years I have seen her for a jaw pain and teeth grinding. She has always told me that Invisalign would resolve my issues. My teeth weren’t particularly crooked and Invisalign is not cheap, so I put it off for a long time. A year and a half ago I finally took the leap after a close friend of mine raved about her Invisalign experience and outcome. (I was able to finance the whole thing interest free through care credit!) Dr. Shahabi was 100% correct. Not only is my jaw pain is gone, but a lot of my neck pain as well. I still grind my teeth in my sleep but the Invisalign protects everything and I no longer have chipped or crumbling teeth. It actually feels good to have them in and I did not experience any speaking issues at all. I wish I had taken her advice sooner. It would have saved me a lot of pain and expense (repairing chipped teeth). And even though my teeth were not crooked, they were very tight together. Now that my teeth are property aligned, my smile is bigger and my speech has improved. Getting Invisalign from Dr. Shahabi has been an overwhelmingly positive experience for me and I recommend it to anyone.

Today i got my first experience of a Dental Spa. I came for a deep cleaning. The stuff is following strickt the Covid 19 protocol when you enter, which gave me a safe feeling. I had the pleasure of getting massaged ( chair) while watching TV. The doctor gave me a topical numbing which was much better than having a injection and it did the same job. The time was passing to fast actually- i would have loved to stay a little bit longer to finish the movie;-). Normally i running out of the Dental offfice. I found my permanent Dental here in SF. Best experience ever Thank you so much for overcoming my fear and the excellent service I guess I never posted it - lol I lost my filling yesterday and there took me in asap. Thanks Dr. Shahabi for the fast a good care. You saved me from tons of pain.

Although I have lived in San Francisco for many years, as a former New Yorker, I had continued to get all checkups, cleanings, and treatments in New York since I travel to NY often on business. Yesterday, I decided it was time to find a dentist in San Francisco so I called Dr. Sheila Shahabi's office. I was so amazed that she offered to see me instead of taking her well-deserved lunch break to fit me in before I was to leave on a business trip! I was already 2 months late for a check-up and cleaning! Dr. Shahabi is not only very knowledgeable and professional, she is a kind and caring human being. I highly recommend Serenity Dental Spa for not only the outstanding and quality dental care, but also for Dr. Shahabi's staff. They all played a pivotal role from the moment I called the office until I left knowing I had found the best dental practice in San Francisco!

Update: I had my teeth cleaned today and I was very impressed by all the COVID-19 safety measures in place. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a staff member fully covered in PPE. She pumped hand sanitizer on my hands, gave me gloves to wear, measured my temperature and asked me a series of questions related to COVID-19 screening. The reception area was shielded and the entire staff was wearing PPE. The treatment room had an air filter with a germ killing UV lighting running. They stagger patients, so I was the only patient in the office. My tooth cleaning was done manually, without creating aerosols. The dentist, Dr. Chu was wearing double masks, an N95 and a secondary surgical mask plus goggles. I felt super protected and confident that it was much safer than going to the grocery store. I am super happy that my teeth are clean and bright again! Thank you Serenity Dental Spa for keeping us safe! *** I've been a patient at Serenity Dental Spa for 12+ years. Dr. Shahabi is very knowledgeable and caring, her staff is professional and pleasant. The equipment and technology they use is state-of-the-art. I always feel well taken care of when I visit them. I highly recommend their services.

They try to get money out of you as much as they can. I have had braces, but they tried to push me to get invisiline. The hygienist was very rough with my mouth and I left in pain. Never would recommend. What a scam.

I did not end up having a dental cleaning here (learned that CA requires new patients to undergo x-rays and full exam...my regular dentist was booked for some time, necessitating my visiting a new dental practice for one-off cleaning). However, am rating these guys 5 stars because they still went really above and beyond. It turns out they knew my regular dentist, and knew that she had another branch of her practice able to utilize my existing exams. Turns out they had availability! These guys really went above and beyond to help me out even though I did not proceed with my appointment...I expect they do the same for their patients!

I always enjoy my visits at Serenity Dental Spa - really feels like a spa there) nice music, aroma candles, tea, comfortable chairs with massage functions, blankets :) I’ve been going for more than 2 yrs now, and am very happy with the results of the Invisalign program that Dr.Shahsbi prescribed. I also replaced all my old mercury fillings and Dr.Shahabi did all my new ones - she is such a pro! I was surprised how fast this has been done and at the highest quality. I brought my son and husband here too, now this is our family dentistry, and we all are very grateful for the professionalism of Dr.Shahabi herself and all her team members.

Updated review: I do not recommend this place. I’ve been an Invisilign client for 6 months now. Sheila’s office is poorly managed with not placing orders or not communicating orrpwlrio. Times for appointments. There’s terrible follow up. As a client of Invisilign, I do not recommend going here. They will give you a high quote for the “best service” and afterwards fail to order trays on time (it’s been 5 weeks since I got my scans and the office allegedly “ordered them”). I called today and apparently the doctor did not order the trays. My current retainers are getting lose and dirty (they are supposed to last 1-2 weeks and I’ve had mine for 7 weeks total, 2 weeks adjusting and 2 weeks holding the adjustments while I await new trays). Unfortunately Sheila is a great doctor when you work directly with her, but her office has terrible operations and client services.

I have never had an accounting problem with them so I don't understand the issues everyone else is having. Dr.Shahabi recommended Invislign to me and 2 months in have ready seen a huge difference. I wasn't so sure about it at first but she was completely right. I have been back since shelter in places and I cannot believe all Dr.Shahabi has done to protect all her patients and staff. She has gone above and beyond the standard of care and I recommend this office to everyone. 10 out of 10.

I chose Serenity Dental Spa since it is close to my job in the financial district. I love the new bigger office! It is so modern and inviting. Got my filing done last week and here is my experience: - got friendly reminder of my appointment and warm greeting from reception desk - got explanation of procedure & any costs involved - showed my room right after I sign-in - offered water, massage chair, magazine & option to watch a movie (nothing like this was offered at my other dentists, instead of was in gloomy room full of people in-line) - scared of needles, but Dr. Shahabi walked me through it, so my filing was painless - everyone was friendly & attentive I was impressed that event my 2-yr liked it, since they customize his check-up so it was fun and fast and he allowed to touch some things and play a Dr. My invisalign was worth it, my Dr. was right. We are definitely coming back!

Before even thinking of going there, do yourself a favor and check out some of their reviews... I wish I had seen them before I ever stepped foot there. This place is a horror show. I got a bill from them for a procedure I had done FOUR YEARS ago; all because they messed up the claim with the insurance company, and filed it three years late. They will convince you to get dental work you don't need, overcharge you for it, mess up your insurance claim, harass you to pay money you don't owe them, and send you to collections if you don't. Please stay away from there. There are many great dentists in San Francisco who have legitimate business practices and are not intent on ripping people off.

***Update 10/3: Shahabi continues to bill our ins co. for invisalign maintenance despite the fact I never had invsialign installed. She has these fees already set up in the system to be auto billed even if you aren't treating anymore. CIGNA called the office and they confirmed that his trays are still there and unused and Invisalign was never installed. Our secondary AETNA denies all claims bc she is marked as FRAUD in their system now. BEWARE SHE WILL DRAIN YOUR BENEFITS EVEN IF YOU NEVER COME BACK!!!! *** This office commits credit card AND insurance fraud and my family are now going to the extensive process to protect ourselves from them. Like the other reviews here, I was pressured to get dental work with fear tactics about my oral health. I believe this is due in part to here large overhead that is glamorized in a spa like setting. GET A SECOND OPINION ON YOUR ORAL HEALTH. They did NOT bill my insurance first. I was forced into applying for Care Credit while I was in the patient chair under the belief that my dual coverage would not cover my 2 crowns and 6 fillings, which I later found out was a complete lie. I was told if there was an overpayment by my insurance company that I would receive a reimbursement from her when in reality, she should have never charged me out of pocket until both insurance companies paid on the claims and then the remaining balance would be patient responsibility. It is completely presumptuous on Shahabi's part to believe she won't get paid and to put that on the patient while they are already in the treatment chair rather than addressing the situation the front desk prior to starting treatment so that patients can make an informed decision. Instead, I was put on the spot and lied to that I didn't have the coverage for basic procedures. I would never have moved forward with my care had I been approached about this at the front desk, and I'm guessing they knew that and it's why they approach me when I am in the treatment chair, already getting work done. Shahabi tried to charge more services to my Care Credit than what I authorized when I told her I did not want to move forward with invisalign until my CC was paid off. So instead, she called Care Credit and requested an extension for my line of credit WITHOUT asking my permission to do so for whatever reason when I denied moving forward with more services. I found out by mail that it was extended and now have to go through the process to report CC fraud!! We received a letter on July 7th from Care Credit after their own investigation saying that Sheila Shahabi did in fact increase my limit over the phone without our knowledge. We immediately called SFPD. Reuben the manager acts like a dumbfounded idiot who has no idea what is going on but he does. When I confronted him about the extension of the care credit without my permission he said "sometimes the front office staff makes that mistake." Are you kidding me?? Zero accountability acting like its not a big deal at all that they did this without my consent. I filed a report with SFPD who are now investigating Serenity and have now involved the Dental Board of California, both our insurance companies, district attorney's office and care credit company. One of our insurance companies is denying all payments to her bc of the police report and the other is investigating her submitting the same charges multiple times in their special investigation unit. Care Credit is also disputing the charges. I would not recommend anyone see Dr. Shahabi due to her unethical practices and her blatant denial that she is financially doing everything backwards to cover her expenses and overhead. I have spoken with other dentists, attorneys and my insurance company who all say that she should not take any money from a patient until claims are paid on and the amount due is billed to the patient. Anything otherwise is modern day extortion and we plan to continue bring justice to this matter promptly.
