I decided to try this dentist office although they were out of network but to my surprise Dr Kim was AMAZING. Although he was recommended to me as "I liked him" ....in my opinion he was impressive. And I can be very hard to please. It is the first dentist I have seen in a long time that didn't have his hands in my pocket sort of speak. He was genuinely interested in the health of my teeth and addressed all my concerns. I didn't feel rushed, but rather felt like he CARED. I was also surprised he cleaned my teeth, not sure if this was typical or they were short staffed OR this was my lucky day because it honestly was the best cleaning I think I've ever had in my life. There were 1 or 2 other memorable cleanings but it's been years. Thank you Dr. Kim and City Dental Group. I would also like to mention the other staff at the front desk were very kind.

False advertising - Does not specialize in TMJ treatments I am suffering from TMJ and their website claims they "provide expert TMJ treatment" yet when I called them to confirm they received my referral, they tell me they would only provide a referral or at most provide a night guard, which most if not all regular dentists already do (which I already have with my own personal dentist). You do not treat TMJ nor are you experts at it. Wasted 3 weeks of my time waiting for this appointment when I could have gone to a proper specialist.

I’ve been visiting city dental over 10 years now and i absolutely love the care and attention that is provided. Everyone is professional, knowledgeable and personable. I was afraid of the dentist for most part of my early life and City Dental was the one who helped me overcome that fear and treated me with dignity, they did not judge me unlike other midtown dentists I went to. I told city dental I was scared of the dentist and I had a really bad cavity, they did the procedure to make sure it was resolved. I refuse to go anywhere else not because of fear but because of who they are to me. They have become my family and I highly recommend them to anyone who is scared to go to the dentist.

Update: I did three root canals with Dr. Val Atsen when I was a patient at City Dental, and all three root canal procedures failed. I had to get all of the root canals retreated at Tribeca Endodontics. Save yourself immense pain and money and do not get any dental work done at City Dental. Review: I was a patient for City Dental for several years before a filling fell out the 4th of July weekend in 2022. I had terrible pain on the left side of my mouth (affecting tooth 14 and 15). Dr. Atsen did a root canal in 14 and 15, but did a terrible job and did not get a CTC scan to look at the roots before doing the procedure. Both root canals failed. Dr. Atsen redid one. Whenever I told him about the severe pain I was in, he told me I had TMJ and to put a warm washcloth across my face. Meanwhile, I had a raging infection in tooth 14 and 15. I saw a TMJ specialist, and the specialist told me I did not have TMJ and that my jaw was in excellent condition. He said the issue was an underlying tooth infection and crown occusion. I had another dentist look at the crown in 14, and it turns out Dr. Atsen ordered the wrong size crown and forcefully put it on tooth 14, even though it didn't fit. I've since had it adjusted three times, and will have to order a new crown to replace it. The too-large crown digs into size 15 and presses into the gum. Avoid Dr. Atsen and City Dental to protect your health. Going to his office for dental treatment was truly the worst decision I have ever made in my life. I have since gotten a CTC scan, and found out there was a raging infection in the nerves in 14 and 15, and gotten those teeth retreated at an endodontist. Dr. Atsen is not detail-oriented or careful enough to complete root canal procedures, and is condescending to his female patients when they share their experience with him. To tell a patient to put a warm washcloth on their face and be less stressed when there is a serious infection in tooth 14 and 15 is disgraceful and dangerous. Avoid him. If I go back in time and could change any decision in my life, I would change having gone to seen Dr. Val Atsen DDS at City Dental.

Professional, courteous and mindful of the patient’s needs. Appointment scheduling are on point. I have been to the office 5 times now and every time they have seen me has been as scheduled. I have not had to wait in the waiting area due to over-scheduling, or mismanagement of time. I appreciate their sensitivity to my time which is just as valuable. Katerina has amazing hands to ensure that the cleaning has not been painful and continuously confirm that no extreme discomfort during the procedures causes unnecessary stress. The Doctors have come in to objectively analyze the X-rays and provide recommendations based on my best interest. Overall I have been pleasantly surprised; given a lifetime of dental visits, changing to a new practice is inherently plagued with apprehensions however City Dental has eased those concerns with every visit (now after the 5th visit) and year 2.

Most people hate going to the dentist but it is ALWAYS a great time when I go to see Dr. Papando. Pain? What pain?! He is honestly THE BEST and I love how we can just casually talk about anything as he prepares that huge needle for numbing haha! I called their office to make an appointment and I asked if they took my insurance they said YES, when I was there they make me paid the copay then wait again. Then they told me that they DO NOT take my insurance. I don't know how the dentists are here but their front office people are certainly the WORST.

A month ago, I when back to City Dental to get fitted for the final bridge, and before I saw the dentist, I wasn't told by the Receptionist that I had a co-pay of about $600. I was surprised by the co-pay amount, especially since I was never told there would be a co-pay for the final bridge during my previous three visits. I asked the Receptionist what the heck would've happened if I had no money/credit card on me? She didn't reply, then I when out of the office and called my wife, and when I went back to the Receptionist informed me that there were additional co-pays in total about $775. By now, I was fuming. I believe City Dentist knew all along that I would be billed a co-pay and said nothing. They knew it's not likely that a patient would walk out without such an essential part of their mouthpiece, so they waited for that vulnerable moment then hit you with the surprise! You have a co-pay! It was underhanded, and the lack of transparency means that I will take my business somewhere else from now on.

Be careful of City Dental charging extra to cover their fees for using Credit care and any credit card. They raise the cost and Victoria the Supervisor/ boss is very sneaky. However the work is good I gave them a 2 star because they tried to over charge me because I asked could I use credit care.

Understand there's pressure on staff b/c of COVID, but all the more reason to be ultra polite to your patients. I rescheduled my appointment from spring to summer; showed up and they told me the hygienist went home. Why didn't they call me to cancel? Called today to get an appointment; receptionist was super curt, and then downright rude; maybe she's having a tough day, but who isn't these days? She hung up on me 3 times after I asked about their cancellation policy & notification. Been going here 10 years, but the last two experiences have been full of entitlement on their behalf, like there's no need to communicate with me as a patient about cancellations or new COVID procedures.

After losing my job during Covid, I decided to do something I was dreading to do for a long time. I knew it is time to do cosmetic work, but never found courage. After doing extensive research and consulting with several dentists (who charge for their consultations), I decided to follow my friend’s suggestion. She had veneers done by Dr. Taranov about 8-10 years ago and was very happy with his work. I admire her smile and consulted with Dr. Taranov. He was patient and I did not feel that I was being sold. He actually recommended to do less veneers for me than other dentists. It was important to me that he works with one of the best labs in NYC. Dr. Taranov discussed different materials and why e-max is good for some people, but zirconium is better for others. He also explained importance of finding the right color for veneers. It is not all color and size fits all! He takes your skin tone, the way you smile and color of your existing teeth into consideration. Manager, Victoria, discussed price with me and I found that it is reasonable. I was not looking for cheap work, I was looking for good professional. I can save money of the purse or dinner, but not on my health and my smile. For the benefit of first-timers, I will describe the process. On the day of my consultation, Dr. Taranov made impressions and sent them to his lab. The lab produced the model of how my teeth are going to look like. After seeing the model (I think it is called wax-up), I made my final decision to proceed with the case. Next visit took about 2-3 hours. I truly appreciate Dr. Taranov and his assistant, Michelle, telling me each time what they were going to do and why. Of course, drilling and suction is not pleasant, but doctor made everything possible to make me comfortable. I guess I am a bit of a chicken and gave him more trouble than other patients, but he did not show it. He stopped every time when he saw that I needed rest. In two weeks, I came for my exciting day. Doctor took off my temporaries (very simple) and cleaned around a bit. He patiently made several adjustments to make sure that my bite is correct and voila: my veneers are done! Summary: I am very happy with the way my veneers look and feel. I am happy with the color – not he whitest color possible, but the one that makes you look younger. It is not he color that people would say “Ah, you have done some cosmetic work.” It is the color that people say: “You look fresh and happy” but they do not necessarily know why. When looking for the right professional, do your research, ask the questions. Dr. Taranov and his stuff answer questions (multiple times, if need be) and they are there for you to hold your hand through this whole process. Hope this helps someone to make the right choice.

I am a patient of City Dental since 2008. This review is long overdue. I am a loyal patient and it has gotten to the point that although I no longer work or live in NYC, I still travel to their office for ALL services. The staff is patient and kind. Dr. Taranov is simply AMAZING. He is an expert in his craft and cares more about my teeth than I could ever wish for. We have been through many procedures over the years and I have never felt rushed or in pain. The oral hygienists take their time with my cleanings and this actually encourages me to take care of my teeth until I see them again in 6 months. Victoria is the best. She goes out of her way to ensure my insurance needs are met and is always available for consultations and/or suggestions. I have recommended many people over the years and each of them have grown to love the staff as I do. If you are looking for a dentist that will care for your oral health for years to come - THIS IS THE DENTAL TEAM FOR YOU!

The Manager Victoria ! had a NASTY rude attitude and cannot handle customers and situations appropriately. Me and my wife were on time for our apt but my wife had to park the car which took longer than expected with the directions from the front desk rep, and knowledge that we were LOOKING FOR PARKING. By the time my wife came in, Victoria told my wife that her apt had been canceled even thoe she had been signed in already, then told us that signing in means nothing ! and that because she was late she wouldn't be able to get her cleaning, even thoe they knew the situation, and could've told us prior that she wouldn't be able to be seen OR told me because i was inside the office and was blatantly on the phone with her. Besides this, Victoria The MANAGER decided my wife's mishaps were funny and basically laughed in her face the entire ordeal. Which led to an altercation between US , the Employees and 2 other patients in the office . POLICE WERE CALLED ! . it was unnecessary and embarrassing , customer service is a big part of most businesses and you dont know what people go through personally. Antagonization and rudeness should never be a part of a managers uniform in any establishment no matter what the situation.

Yesterday, after months of losing my temporary front tooth cap, I finally got up the nerve to go to the dentist. I called ahead of time to find out their new Covid-19 protocols, the receptionist gave me the information that I needed. She said everyone wears mask, no more than 4 in the reception area, dentist and assistant wear PPE during the visit and everyone gets their temperature taken. Great I thought. When I arrived, I was the only one waiting. The receptionist called me over to take my temperature and her mask was hanging loosely under her nose. I said please put your mask properly over your nose before I come close to you for my temperature. I was upset. She did what I asked and pulled her mask back down after she finished. Then I noticed another worker boldly not wearing a masks at all. The service from the dentist and the assistants was excellent but the office staff are taking risk with the customers lives. As I was leaving, there was a customer seated in the receptionist area without a mask. Why wasn’t he asked to put his mask on? I will not be going back. I am high risk and I don’t want to get COVID-19 from my dentist’s office.

My suggestion is do not go for anything than a simple cleaning. I have gone for several years just for cleanings. I always knew it wasn’t the same quality of care that I previously received on a prior insurance. They do not do anything other than clean your teeth unlike other dentists where it is standard to do oral cancer screenings and document gum recession. Unfortunately I had a cavity and I thought they had filled it but 6 months later I went to another dentist and found out they didn’t even fill half of the cavity. Very disappointing as they also did not numb me. I went through pain for nothing. Glad to not longer be going there and back to a higher quality dentist.

During my initial visit, Dr. Papando mentioned how I needed three fillings. I freaked out because my last experience (somewhere else) was terrible because it hurt so much. Dr. Papando reassured me that it wouldn't hurt and let me tell you, he was so right. I was amazed. My son and I have been going to city dental for the past few years now. I am a very picky person especially when going to a good dentist. My son used to have a fear of the dentist from going to previous dentist offices. Now he comes to City Dental by himself with no fear. Dr. Atsen is a very good dentist. If he is unavailable Dr. T will step in to take care of me. I never had any problems after I left the office from getting my dental work done. I never had a billing issue. I never had to wait long to be seen. The staff is very friendly. They work with my busy work schedule. I’m pleased with their services! The staff is great. The actual dentist...not so much. They convinced me to get a bridge that they had to redo 3 times in two years due to it falling out and I had to pay for the third time. I'm now in a different state and the third one that they did not even a year ago is so bad that my current dentist wants to talk to the dentist from City Dental to tell him how bad the work is. I now have to pay for a whole new bridge because the 3rd one I received from City Dental was a horrible job. I had a missing tooth way in the back and to get a bridge they had to saw down two perfectly good surrounding teeth. They said I needed it because my teeth would shift if I didnt. When in actuality my teeth have shifted a ton since I've gotten the bridge and they are now crooked. Would not recommend them. Ever. Not to be dramatic but this bridge has been the worst decision of my life.

He was very knowledgeable, polite and super thorough with my cleaning. He took his time with me and provided the best care when taking my x-rays. Extremely Great! I’ve been afraid of the dentist my ENTIRE life. Haven’t been to one in 5+ years. This office and staff made me feel so comfortable. They explained everything to me. Went in on sept 17th. Be aware of fees after services are done. They will nickle and dime you. Went in for cleaning and X-rays at City Dental, before going asked on the phone if could get copies of X-rays, was told I could. After the procedure, asked for copies of my X-ray, was told I need to pay $10. For services my insurance pays. Other places I've been to don't charge.

decent dentistry but be careful, they'll work on your teeth without telling you if you're fully covered or not and if your insurance doesn't cover the full amount you'll owe a hefty balance No one warned me that the work they did may or may not be covered in fact, I was told during my visit the exact amount I owed and I paid it. 2 Weeks later I got a call saying I owe a balance because insurance didn't cover everything. Simply dishonest if you ask me.

I was very impressed with City Dental. I made an appointment for my son for a Wed at 10:30am and he was seen right after we filled out the necessary paperwork which was around 10:35am. The staff was very pleasant and the office was very clean. My son had his x-ray, examination, and cleaning all within an hour. My son has to come back for fillings and the staff knew it was very important that he came back in before school started next week because I did not want him to miss any school time. Even though they had a very packed schedule they were able to squeeze my son in for Friday. Dr Taranov was very thorough and his staff was very thorough. It is hard to find a good dentist in NYC because most of them you have to be waiting for 3-5 hours and the staff is very rude. If you are looking for a great dental experience try City Dental.

I just came back from City Dental and was very satisfied with the service I get from them. I have not been to a dentist in a while so I was due. I called in the am & got a pm appointment the same day, I was very happy about that. Prior to my call to City Dental I called several other dentist who gave me appointments ranging from the next day to a week. The Hygienist Elana was very nice & understanding and explained what she was doing and why she was doing it. I had to get a couple of fillings and a deep cleaning done all which were pain free thanks to the HUGE used to numb my gums lol.I plan on returning to City Dental for my follow up exam in 6 months.

I recently moved from LA, so my excellent LA periodontist recommended a Central Park South colleague, who is excellent. When I wanted a dentist, though, I wanted someone closer to where I live downtown, and asked my tennis partners for recommendation. One said, without a doubt, Dr. Taranov of City Dental. Turned out I needed three crowns replaced. After the first crown was done, I returned for my gum cleaning to my periodontist, Without my asking, she complimented me on my new crown. I wanted to make sure she was not just being polite, so I asked how she could tell it was nice. The margins, she explained, were good between the crown and my teeth, and the crown sat right. I had, she said, found myself a good dentist.. Central Park South quality at downtown prices. Exactly what I want in a dentist. And yes, he is an English speaking Russian-American. So what?
